I am so pleased that I have this course to do for a number of reasons and the Color Your Day unit has been especially thought provoking for me at this time. It’s wonderful to be thankful and be able to take some time out and relax with craft.
In this unit I was encouraged to gain inspiration from my surroundings, explore the color wheel and try inks other than black. I took my inspiration from a tin that I had covering in contact many years ago that is now holding my Polychromos pencils. The neutral background and simple daisies I find very attractive. It also allowed me to use Kraft cardstock for the background instead of white.

I searched through my Altenew ink swatches and found a good match. I also got out my color wheel, and low and behold, this all fits in perfectly! Now, I would not have thought to use this color ink for the entire stamp. Just remember the ink needs time to dry. The different darkness is due to the top image being stamped last. I then went on to use my Altenew Artist Markers in coordinating colors to bring out the details. I ended up adding another image to the top right hand corner because I didn’t want to repeat a style of card that I had already done.
Mocha watercolor paint was also added to the background for interest.
I felt that it would have been very similar to the card on the left if I did not add any thing else. My aim is to create as many different types of cards to show my growth.
Making your card stock coordinate helps tie the overall look of your card. But keep in mind if you use kraft card stock, also make your banners in the same materials. I had just grabbed a piece of white card stock for my original banner and something just didn’t look right. The ink behaves differently on different types of card stock .
The addition of some gold gel pen and gold stone Nuvo drops help lift the card’s appeal. I chose not to use the gold gel pen around the entire banner to give it more of an antique look and layered it on gold card stock.
