I love 💕 using alcohol markers. Recently I completed a class with Mindy Baxter and really enjoyed picking up some new tips and ideas for using Altenew’s Artist Markers.
I used the packaging from the stamp set for inspiration and I really wanted to quickly get into some colouring! Masking paper was very useful to create my dimensional image, just make sure that you do heat set it just to make sure you don’t get any bleeding. I also used an alcohol friendly ink since I was going to use my markers (Memento)
I started with my lightest green marker, switched to the darkest green marker and then began blending with my mid tone marker. Switching back and forth from my lightest and mid tone green markers allows me to get a blend that I am happy with.
I used the same approach with my first flower but used my red markers instead. Since I wanted the second flower to have an orange tone (and I don’t have any orange markers) I under coloured in yellow which turned out really well.
To get my highlights I used the colourless blender (0) .
Shadows always help give your images more depth so I always try to think about where my light source is coming from.
To take my image to the next level I used a stencil with some glitter gel. Don’t forget to clean up straight away afterwards or you will find it very hard to remove from surfaces that you don’t want it on.
Once the gel was dry I used my new Altenew ink blending tool to add the matching ink around the edge. I also began thinking of extra details that I would like to add.
I cut my background so that the striped paper would lie flat on the card and attached them to the base.
Here you can see how you can use the inspiration from the packaging but still make it your own style. The sentiment also had three extra die cuts glued to it for dimension.
