I have so much fun working with these new products especially their hot foil plates.

Not long ago I purchased my own Go Press foil machine so I am relatively new to the foiling game so I was very excited to use some of Altenew’s new hot foil plates. I now also want to try some different types of patterns and colors of foils.

My first card used Altenew’s Eucalyptus Wreath Hot Foil Plate which was rather large and intimidating for me. You can not get the entire image onto an A2 size card so you have to be selective as to what you want to use and also think about the placement in your die cutting machine. 🤫I have a little gouge mark on the inside of my machine now…not that it will effect it in the long run.☺️ But that being said I am absolutely thrilled with the results (I think it is my favorite card from this release 😍) I also used the stencil with Altenew’s ink sprays and then added matching alcohol markers to get the beautiful mottled leaves.

How I Did It

  1. I first swiped a Frosty Pink mini cube onto the front edges of my 110lb cardbase.
  2. Heated up the foil plate.
  3. Placed chosen foil face down onto foil plate and add 80lb cardstock in position.
  4. Roll through die cut machine slowly.
  5. Gently remove the foil sheet.
  6. Tape stencil into position, making sure to not leave any gaps.
  7. Spray in a spray box to contain the drift and remember to clean off your stencil straight away.
  8. Once dry you can use alcohol markers to create depth at the base of the leaves.
  9. Back to the spray box to add some extra splatter with gold and black ink.
  10. Die cut three of the Fancy Thanks Die (2 white cardstock and 1 gold glitter cardstock) and glue together.
  11. Cut background to 4” x 5 1/4” and add a couple of the same sized cardstock to add dimension.
  12. Use Misti/acrylic block to stamp sentiment with black ink (I used a post-it note to cover part of the sentiment that I didn’t need).
  13. Glue on die cut and add extra sequins.

I loved the ice cream sundae image for the All Things Sweet Stamp Set and thought it would pair beautifully with Splatter Hot Foil Plate

How I Did It

  1. Heat the foil plate.
  2. Add the chosen foil face down onto the plate and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Cut background to 4” x 5 1/4”.
  4. Stamp and color your ice cream sundae image.
  5. I did use alcohol markers and some of the layering stamps.
  6. Die cut it and 2 additional for dimension.
  7. Die cut 2 of the second smallest Nesting Labels Die.
  8. Dust label with an anti static powder for embossing.
  9. Run the clear embossing pen around the edge of the top label and emboss with gold embossing powder.
  10. Stamp you sentiment, I chose to match it with the color of my sundae glass
  11. Finally I inked up some 1/4” vellum with Hazelnut ink so that the sundae could be grounded and not floating on the card. I was able to just use a glue runner on these pieces.

The Pots and Plants Stamp Set gave me a plantation vibe so I thought pairing it with the Shutter Cover Die would work nicely. I was also inspired by the woven embossing folder to try and create that feeling of texture with alcohol markers.

How I Did It

  1. Die cut 1 background die (you could do more for dimension).
  2. Color the bottom 1 1/4” of your card front with the lightest alcohol marker (Vanilla Cream Y401) to start the floorboards.
  3. Swipe the next darkest marker from the sides to give the illusion of timber, leaving some lighter patches in the centre.
  4. Keep doing this with the other brown markers until you are happy.
  5. Trim your background die to fit and glue it to the card front.
  6. Stamp and color the pot image.
  7. Die cut it and two others for dimension.
  8. Cut a 1” strip of heat resistant vellum and use an antistatic powder to prepare it for embossing.
  9. Stamp your chosen sentiment on the vellum with VersaMark ink and emboss with gold embossing powder.
  10. Fold the vellum around the card front and attach with glue or tape from behind.
  11. Glue the image on the top and add some gems for embellishment.
  12. Finally fix it to your cardbase with glue or tape.

Bonus Card

I enjoyed using both the Splatter Hot Foil Plate and the All Things Sweet Stamp Set so much that I created another version with the supplies. This time I used some pink holographic foil for a different look. I also incorporated the Burlap Texture Die to give the appearance of a wafer/waffle. The sentiment was embossed onto some clear heat resistant acetate so that the background could stand out.

  2. I adore how the first sundae card and the plant card have such a singular composition yet use different things. It shows you don’t have to reinvent the wheel all the time, and demonstrates how you can make some different cards with a similar layout.

I especially love both sundae cards.

  3. My favorite is the pots and plants card. It is really well done and I love the way you colored the floor. (There’s something you don’t hear everyday.)
